Lord, this is the people that longs to see your face.

The psalmist tells us elsewhere that God’s word is a lamp that guides our steps (Ps 119:105). If we open our hearts to it and pay attention to it, it will illuminate the darkness that confronts us in our everyday lives, expose our shortcomings and prevent us from stumbling. Truly, ‘in his light we see light’ (Ps 36:9).

We see it especially in the life and teaching of Jesus who proclaimed himself to be the light of the world and who assured us that, in following him, we too would have ‘the light of life’ and would never walk in darkness (John 8:12). Dear Lord, free me from the blindness of sin and self-deception, guide me along the right path and help me bring the light of your truth to others.
