Simeon held the child in his arms.

Here was the warmth and life of God’s promise. This, too, I long for—the warmth and life of God’s promise. The cold has been powerful in our world, in my heart—the barren, empty cold of loneliness and isolation. It is the cold of homelessness and neglect. It is the cold of hardness and self-preoccupation. Into this cold, into my cold, comes the warmth.

I take you in my arms, Jesus, as Simeon did. I can feel the promise of life, a new and different future. Come, Lord Jesus. Break into my coldness. Help me to hold others and give them warmth. May your Spirit of life breathe in me. And may my arms and my heart give life and hope.
