The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear?

These may well have been the words that guided St Josephine Bakhita, a Sudanese slave who was kidnapped and mistreated but later, being touched by the grace of human kindness, found freedom. Assisted by, and later joining the Canossian Daughters of Charity, Josephine found the God whose grace had supported her through her difficult times.

Has a similar experience of grace touched other African women who now find themselves on our shores? Can our hands help deliver the grace they need to flourish? If we look closely enough we can see the hand of God in the lives of many of our disadvantaged brothers and sisters. Like St Josephine Bakhita, they have much to teach us.
