‘Does a woman forget her baby at the breast or fail to cherish the child of her womb? Yet even if these forget, I will never forget you.’

This verse from Isaiah sums up so much in the scriptures: God’s love is unfailing. The image will occur again: ‘As one who is comforted by his mother, so I will comfort you.’

God’s grace is not something apart from us. It is not only his mercy, his favour or his love—it is all of these, but much more. It is a mercy and favour and love that transforms us, makes us new, gives us an abiding power to know and love God that is far above our natural power.

God chose his people Israel, and continued to be faithful to them even though they were not faithful to him. He will do the same for us. Help me, Father, to know your love and your care for me.
