‘It is better for one man to die for the people.’

And this is about to happen, within the week. How often, still today, do we hear that the end justifies the means? Down through history this convenient lie has seen the deaths of Thomas Becket, Oscar Romero, and countless other martyrs. Little did Caiaphas know that he was about to unleash the greatest miracle of all. By calling for Jesus to be killed, he thought to save the nation from the Romans.

How fearful were the disciples as they went to Ephraim? How did Jesus encourage them, knowing what was to come? Let us make this last journey to the cross, travelling the Calvary road with him.

Lord, help us to discern with integrity when making life and death decisions, never taking the convenient way of not caring for the lives of others.
