About Today Readings

St Hilary.

1 Samuel 9:1-4, 17-19; 10:1. Psalm 20(21):2-7. Mark 2:13-17.

Lord, your strength gives joy to the king—Psalm 20(21):2-7.

Jesus said to him, ‘Follow me.’ And he got up and followed him.

Let us take a few moments now to experience Jesus addressing these words to each of us? What will my answer be today? To what action or commitment is Jesus calling me?

Part of the answer to these questions will involve Jesus’ commitment (so clear from today’s gospel) to the outsiders in his religious community. As Jesus moved among these people, bringing them life and hope and showing them respect, so too we are expected to reach out in this way to people in our community.

Jesus. It is not always easy to follow you. May your companionship encourage and help me to take those steps you expect of me.
