The Pope’s Worldwide Prayer Network is the new name in 2017 for the Apostleship of Prayer.
It is an international apostolic service entrusted by the Pope to the Jesuits. It has at its heart the devotion to the Heart of Christ, a heart open to all the concerns that face humanity.
Devotion to the Sacred Heart first inspired the Apostleship of Prayer. Now, there is even more emphasis on being the personal prayer network of the Holy Father.
Pope Francis has taken a keen personal interest in the network. Praying for the Holy Father’s intentions helps us to look outside of ourselves and open our hearts – in other words, to become apostolic, to become those 'Missionary Disciples' that Pope Francis always encourages us to be.
Responding to Pope Francis’ call for this prayer movement, the Australian Province of the Society of Jesus has put together a 48-page prayer resource booklet which is available in hard copy and electronically.
The book includes the Way of the Heart – a nine-step journey of prayer and reflection, intentions of the Holy Father for each month from January to December, including tearable pages that can be carried as prayer cards or bookmarks; a range of different Morning Offerings for each month; and other prayer reflections to assist in finding daily solace with God.
The booklet also has links to web based resources provided by the Pope’s Worldwide Prayer Network.
Each month Pope Francis also records video messages of his intentions. These videos can be watched here: Video of the Pope's Prayer Intentions
