About Today Readings

St Justin. Day of Penance.

1 Peter 4:7-13. Psalm 95(96):10-13. Mark 11:11-26.

The Lord comes to judge the earth—Psalm 95(96):10-13.

‘Above all, preserve an intense love for each other.’

Jesus went to the temple after his triumphant entry into Jerusalem, but the next day returned to drive out the money-lenders and traders. He must have thought and prayed about it during the night before acting for the glory of his father.

Peter exhorts us to live our lives using whatever gifts we have received, whether hospitality, speech or service, ungrudgingly for the glory of our creator. We should not count the cost nor give in to fears of ridicule, hostility or even doubts wherever we see the need. But we need to follow the example of Jesus—by prayerful meditation—so that our course of action is effectively guided by wisdom from the Spirit.
