Caught in the net

We have arrived at the Friday of Easter Week. The Gospel story today tells of the third appearance of the risen Lord to his disciples according to John. The risen Lord sets up for breakfast around a charcoal fire by the Sea of Galilee. Peter might remember another charcoal fire in the High Priest’s courtyard the previous Friday. There is no catch for the disciples this night, until the Lord gives directions. A total of 153 large fish and the net is not torn. The risen Lord tosses his net around the world, and now around all history. It is not torn and catches all. In the first reading Peter stands again before the High Priest and boldly tells him that the cripple he healed was not his work but that of the man they had crucified, the Lord Jesus, now risen. Peter would remember his breakfast of charcoal grilled fish that morning.
