Hosea 14:2-10. My mouth will declare your praise – Ps 50(51):3-4, 8-9, 12-14, 17. Matthew 10:16-23.
We are sent like sheep in the midst of wolves
Pope Leo invites us to pray daily the Word. The Word takes us to many horizons. The Word today reminds us that we are sent like sheep in the midst of wolves. Do we feel set adrift in the midst of moral decay, left in places where the rule of law no longer applies, where surviving guns and gangs and violence become a daily toil?
Royal Commissions search for the depths of human sin. Corruption seems to abound. Pope Francis encouraged us to be field hospitals, to be healers in this mess. Hosea reminds us that our God is ‘like an evergreen cypress; from me comes your fruit’. The Lord is like the mighty cedar of Lebanon. Shall we return and shelter under its shadow? Shelter we can, but we must speak. The Lord has promised that the words we speak will come from the Spirit of God.
