About Today Readings

St Leo the Great |Day of penance

Romans 15:14-21. The Lord has revealed to the nations his saving power – Psalm 97(98):1-4. Luke 16:1-8.

My duty is bring the Good News from God to the pagans

I must admit I am confused by the Gospel today and if it wasn’t for the red text that gives a snippet I’d have no clue. I suppose therein lies the significance of knowing the context around scripture – what is happening before and after, what is the world within, behind and in front of the text. Paul has this sorted in his letter to the Romans – he isn’t going to go where Jesus is already known and loved, he is going to go out to make Jesus known and loved – facing what might be unknown contexts, unknown communities. Trusting the Holy Spirit that ‘Those who have never been told about him will see him, and those who have never heard about him will understand’.
