Vocation demands freedom and courage
Public meetings were a mixture of opposition by some and tepid anticipation by others.V
Jesus reminds us in Matthew’s Gospel that vocation is not a casual arrangement but a covenant that shapes our lives. Whether it’s marriage, priesthood, religious life or the quiet fidelity of single life, a vocation is always a long road. Commitment sounds romantic until it becomes the daily practice of patience, forgiveness and perseverance. Jesus does not pretend it is easy. ‘Not everyone can accept this teaching,’ he says. Vocation demands freedom and courage and asks us to listen deeply for God’s call to step forward with eyes wide open. The promise is simple, a life given in love becomes a tree that bears fruit.
