At last I admitted to you that I had sinned
Christians believe in a loving God who has created us in his own image and shared his creative powers with us. Yet our spirituality, based on this faith, must deal with sinful aspects of our own being and the effects of sin in the world around us. The Bible, human history and daily occurrences testify that human beings can and do use their gift of creative freedom in a way that is destructive of themselves, of others and the world around them.
The conflict between joy in positive achievement and anger about violent destructiveness sometimes tempts us to see God as uncaring and ineffective. The only acceptable answer to our angry ‘why?’ is that God in Jesus leads us through the mystery of our own destructiveness to the prospect of love, mercy, forgiveness and new life.
