About Today Readings

The Exaltation of the Holy Cross.

Numbers 21:4-9. Psalm 77(78):1-2, 34-38. Philippians 2:6-11. John 3:13-17.

Do not forget the works of the Lord! —Psalm 77(78):1-2, 34-38.

‘He did not cling to his equality with God.’

God does not ask much more of us than that we love him. From our experience of God’s love, we can make a response. Today’s reading from John’s Gospel speaks of the Lord lifting up the Son of Man, his only son. Those beautiful words ‘God so loved the world that he gave his only son’ show us just how abundantly God lavishes love upon us.

Perhaps today you might take a moment in quiet contemplation, whether through scripture or simply sitting in silence seeking the presence of God. Ask God to show you how much he loves you. Take time to respond.
