Day of Penance.
1 Kings 19:9, 11-16. Psalm 26(27):7-9, 13-14. Matthew 5:27-32.
I long to see your face, O Lord—Psalm 26(27):7-9, 13-14.
‘Go out and stand on the mountain before the Lord.’
If you were told to go and stand outside as God was going by, what would you expect to see or hear?
Would you expect the earth to shudder or the sky to darken with storm clouds?
In our first reading today Elijah was told to do just that.
But when the Lord came, there were not storms and strong winds, there was a gentle, murmuring breeze.
Elijah felt the presence of God, and he covered his face. He cried out to God in fear of his life. He felt as if he alone was faithful to God.
But God set him straight and showed him the path to take – just as he is always ready to hear our pleas and calm our fears.Email this Print This Page
