St Teresa of Avila
Romans 4:1-8. I turn to you, Lord, in time of trouble, and you fill me with the joy of salvation – Psalm 31(32):1-2, 5, 11. Luke 12:1-7.
This faith was considered as justifying him
St Paul’s Letter to the Romans can be difficult to understand at times. But for too long its theology has divided rather than united us. In 1999, the Lutheran and the Catholic Churches produced a Joint Declaration on the Doctrine of Justification, later joined by the Methodist, Anglican and Reformed churches, to show their common understanding. Together, they declared that ‘justification is the work of the triune God… By grace alone, in faith in Christ’s saving work and not because of any merit on our part, we are accepted by God and receive the Holy Spirit, who renews our hearts while equipping and calling us to good works.’ So today we might reflect on what we have received through our faith, by grace, and give thanks to God who does not forget even the smallest sparrow.Email this Print This Page
