About Today Readings

Day of Penance.

Wisdom 2:1, 12-22. Psalm 33(34):16, 18-21, 23. John 7:1-2, 10, 25-30.

The Lord is near to broken hearts—Psalm 33(34):16, 18-21, 23.

His hour had not yet come.

We live in such a time-centred world today, with our eyes on the task at hand but also on the clock. For many of us, it is essential to be structured and organised. It can take many years, with a lot of fine tuning from God, to balance that with flexibility. Perhaps the biggest lesson is to wait on God’s time.

When I have surrendered my time to God, I stop worrying about things I cannot control like the past and future. I begin to realise the ways I waste time wishing for things that cannot be and mourning things that will not be. Instead I can see time as an opportunity to engage in the world, using my gifts where the needs meet my gladness. The present moment is now an invitation.
