Store up treasure for yourselves in heaven
How often do we set our hearts on having items, going somewhere, accomplishing something only to be left with a feeling of emptiness or longing for more when the goal is achieved? Indeed, many will go their whole lives stockpiling possessions, ticking off bucket lists and accumulating wealth without once questioning the purpose of their treasure hunt. Financial investment offers a map leading to a wealth of treasures marked by an X. In contrast, the Gospels suggest an alternative pathway that leads to a different cross, one that requires self-emptying. Seventeenth-century French mathematician, physicist and theologian Blaise Pascal noticed people trying to fill their lives with everything around them and suggests that the God-shaped hole in our hearts can only be filled with one type of infinite and immutable treasure: the love of God, love of self and love of neighbour.
