We journey in faith

Scripture is full of people who doubt their ability to speak. Moses was one. The prophet Jeremiah was another. When he complained that he was a child, the Lord told him simply not to be afraid because God would be with him. Perhaps St Patrick felt like this as well. Like so many others, he went to a country where he did not know the language. His famous prayer, St Patrick’s Breastplate, shows that he was not going to defend himself with weapons. He says ‘I bind to myself this day’ and lists all the gifts of God which can help any of us get through a challenging situation. Among them is ‘the word of God to give me speech.’ He prays that Christ will be in the mouth of everyone who speaks to him and everyone who hears him. Like the disciples in the Gospel, we journey in faith. May our faith be the bedrock of all we say.
