About Today Readings

Day of penance

Joshua 24:1-13. His love is everlasting – Psalm 135(136):1-3, 16-18, 21-22, 24. Matthew 19:3-12.

We are asked to live with integrity

Jesus demands integrity in our relationships. He is not hard of heart, he is not without compassion and mercy. Indeed, compassion and mercy overflow in him. But because of this he is demanding. He asks us to live with integrity that we might live most fully as ourselves, in relationship with him. Whatever our state of life, be it married, religious, single, partnered, we are called to love and be in solidarity with those with whom we share life. Far from diminishing us, to will the good of those around us and to act for that good, in other words to love, draws us into life in the image and likeness of God. God whose love is, as the psalm tells is everlasting.
