About Today Readings

Dedication of the Basilicas of Ss Peter and Paul

Apocalypse 10:8-11. How sweet to my taste is your promise! – Psalm 118(119):14, 24, 72, 103, 111, 131. Luke 19:45-48.

‘My house will be a house of prayer’; but you have made it ‘a den of robbers’

What sacred things have we corrupted in our own lives, in our church and in our society? Where have we lost sight of the needs of our soul and instead focused on commercial opportunities? What might this look like in our lives? It might look like a slowly neglected prayer life, where instead of actively creating a space where we listen to God, we spend that time mindlessly scrolling through our phones. Or it might look like focusing on wedding planning to such a degree that we forget to focus on what God is inviting us to through the vocation of marriage. Or it might look like getting so focused on religious ritual that we don’t see the poor right in front us and don’t offer them bread so they can live. May we never lose sight of God’s truth, God’s love, and God’s justice.
