About Today Readings

Day of penance

Apocalypse 10:8-11. How sweet to my taste is your promise! – Psalm 118(119):14, 24, 72, 103, 111, 131. Luke 19:45-48.

You have turned God’s house into a robbers’ den

Then Jesus entered the temple and began to drive out those who were selling things there; and he said: ‘It is written my house shall be a house of prayer but you have made it a den of robbers.’ It is hard to imagine Jesus losing his temper, yet that is what he did when he entered the temple and saw it set up just like a common market. Jesus is justly angry because of the corruption taking place in the temple of God. Lord, help us understand that sometimes anger is necessary in certain situations. It is what we do with the anger that can cause pain and upset to ourselves or others. In those times when we are angry, or feel out of control, help us to call upon you to be with us and help us to respond in love.
