. . . the women who provided for [Jesus and the Twelve] out of their own resources
Australia is in the midst of an epidemic of violence against women. Each week, at least one woman is killed by an intimate partner or family member. Coercive control, now recognised as a precursor to violence and a crime in itself, reduces a woman to the status of a possession.
Jesus was comfortable with the range of women who travelled with him and his disciples. Some had led colourful lives, others were linked to the Roman occupiers. He and the Twelve shared meals they provided and welcomed them as they watched Jesus and listened to his teachings.
Jesus, help all our church leaders to follow you in being at ease with women, valuing their gifts and working with them as equals. Help all men to respect women and control the anger that can kill.
