About Today Readings

St Anselm | Day of penance

Acts 5:34-42. One thing I seek: to dwell in the house of the Lord – Psalm 26(27):1, 4, 13-14. John 6:1-15.

Our challenge is to remain faithful in a land of secular complacency

We Christians who live in Australia are fortunate not to suffer any persecution for our faith. What we have to cope with is the indifference of our society towards religious faith. At worse we are considered a bit fringe. The danger we face is not torture, but a growing complacency: since no one cares, I, too, may grow lukewarm. We are challenged to remain faithful to Jesus, to be joyful and ready to serve, because we know God’s love. We are to be as candles in the Easter vigil darkness for all to see and wonder at.
