Acts 25:13-21. The Lord has set his throne in heaven – Ps 102(103):1-2, 11-12, 19-20. John 21:15-19.
Feed my lambs. Look after my sheep. Feed my sheep.
Having put Peter through the third degree, Jesus responded with ‘feed my sheep’. In other words, Jesus is saying, if you love me, show it in your life, words and actions. Feeding and caring are practical.
This aligns with Jesus’ description of the Last Judgement. What did I do when I met someone who was hungry, thirsty, a stranger, lacking clothes, sick or in prison? I responded to their need or I didn’t.
It is all so basic. Jesus is not requiring that I do a degree in theology. He just asks that when I encounter human need in any form, I respond in whatever way I can. Warmth and human kindness change lives.
It can be as simple as calling a friend who is sick, helping an older person carry groceries, visiting someone in hospital or aged care, writing a note of condolence, or asking a cab driver about his day.
