About Today Readings

St George; St Adalbert

Day of penance

Acts 9:1-20. Go out to all the world, and tell the Good News – Psalm 116(117). John 6:52-59.

My flesh is real food and my blood is real drink

Belen: You were a bit hard on them, weren’t you, Jesus. After all, they couldn’t have known you meant turning bread and wine into your body and blood at Mass.

Jesus: I had told them I am the living bread, Belen, and so living in God depends on accepting me intimately That’s what offended them. But of course, you do have that intimate relationship in the breaking of the bread.

Belen: What do your words mean to us, then, Jesus?

Jesus: I thought you would never ask! It means I am not outside you but with you in the intimate places where you find food for your living and companionship in your dying. That is what you live out in the Eucharist. Do you want me to be that close to you, Belen?

Belen: It’s a bit scary, I have to say. Sometimes I just wish you were a safe distance away in heaven.

Jesus: Your call, Belen. But I would like to stay close.
