About Today Readings

St Bridget of Sweden. Day of Penance

Exodus 20:1-17. Lord, you have the words of everlasting life – Ps 18(19):8-11. Matthew 13:18-23.

And some seed fell on good ground

Archie: Thanks for explaining your parable, Jesus. Tell me where I can find the good soil that yields a harvest. I would like to stay there.

Jesus: Actually, I called you to follow me, Archie, not to stay anywhere. Your journey will take you along the path, over rocky ground, through fields of thorns and on to good soil. You’ll discover as you walk which ground is fertile and which is not. I’ll be with you, though. I am the good soil where you must stay.

Archie: But doesn’t that mean I’ll be pecked by birds, go thirsty on rock and be torn by thorns?

Jesus: Of course, Archie, the seed must fall into the ground and die if it is to bear fruit. So, if you want to follow me that’s where you must go. And I’ll be with you. Then you’ll understand the Word of God fully.

Archie: Are you for real, Jesus?

Jesus: Yes, Archie – remember, I am the risen Jesus.
