About Today Readings

Day of penance

Ephesians 4:1-6. Lord, this is the people that longs to see your face – Psalm 23(24):1-6. Luke 12:54-59.

Bear with one another with love

Saint Paul is begging. He is in prison, and he is begging. He cannot sit with his people and demonstrate his intensity, he cannot have long, inspiring conversations where they see the fiery light in his eyes, he cannot hug them and hold them and show how important it is for them to listen to what he is saying. So, he writes, and writes and writes, letter after letter after letter. He is not begging them to free him from prison or send him food or pass messages to his family. No. He is begging them, and us, to live as Our Lord Jesus lived, because he knows it is the only way. In our world full of influencers of empty promises, lack of trust and disconnection, he begs us from across the years to live with humility and gentleness, with patience, and bear with one another with love. He begs us to make every effort to be unified in peace. I think we should listen.
