About Today Readings

Australia Day

Isaiah 32:15–18. The Lord speaks of peace to his people – Psalm 84(85):9–14. 1 Corinthians 12:4–11 / Romans 12:9–13. Matthew 5:1–12 / Luke 12:22–32.

Lord, help me to let others in

I’m not sure why there seems to be an alternative set of readings today, but it feels like a wonderful embarrassment of riches. So often, especially when I don’t spend enough time in prayer, I feel like I need to be in charge of everything. I get anxious and controlling.

It is humility that helps me to let go, to consider the lily, to understand that we are each blessed with different gifts and that all of these gifts help to build the Kingdom of God. St Paul, in his letter to the Romans, encourages us to practice hospitality. This, I find, is a great way for me to exercise my humility, by allowing others to visit me at home, even when it is imperfect. Lord, help me to let go and to let others in.
