St Vincent de Paul | Day of penance
Ecclesiastes 3:1-11. Blessed be the Lord, my Rock! – Psalm 143(144):1-4. Luke 9:18-22.
God has made everything beautiful in its time
The first reading reminds us that there is a season for everything. It can be easy sometimes to become impatient with ourselves and to fight against the season that we are in. I have to make peace with the idea that while I have children at home, it is not the season for tidiness and calm. It is with the perspective of eternity that we can understand God’s work in all seasons of life. ‘He has made everything beautiful in its time.’
In the Gospel, Jesus asks, ‘Who do you say that I am?’ Many people have strong views and different answers to this question. The thing that matters most is what I believe – ‘But who do you say that I am?’ Lord, help me to always remember to respond in faith. You are the Messiah, the Lord.
