I am the bread of life
Dear Lord, when you spoke of this great mystery-eating your flesh and drinking your blood to gain eternal life- people who heard you were deeply troubled. How could it be? And many were unable to go further in following you. You were speaking of the bread of heaven, and the wine of salvation, but how were they to understand the Eucharist before it had been instituted? As a little child preparing for my first confession and communion, our teacher spoke to us about mystery. There were many mysteries to learn about. Prayer itself was a mystery. And I still don’t really understand. What I know is that you are true. That your purposes are holy. That your way and your words bring life and healing. That through your death you set us free from evil. And that through your Resurrection you bring us home to our Heavenly Father.
