Ss Simon and Jude
Ephesians 2:19-22. Their message goes out through all the earth – Psalm 18(19):2-5. Luke 6:12-19.
Jesus chooses his twelve
Being chosen as one of the twelve must have been like being selected for the coolest of gangs. One minute you are carrying out the ordinary tasks of your day wondering if anything interesting is going to happen, and the next minute you’re surrounded by crowds of people trying to get close to Jesus, your friend and leader, because everyone knows Jesus can cure them of their ills. As one of the twelve it would have been equally thrilling and disconcerting. Was there some cockiness, misplaced pride or even in the initial excitement a foreboding of what was to come?
We too have been chosen, but we don’t belong to a gang. As Paul writes to the Ephesians, we are being built into a house where God lives. We are part of a building that has the apostles and prophets for its foundations, and Christ Jesus as the cornerstone.
