Ours the sorrows he carried

What sorrows do you carry? Are they your own or others? Each year we travel with Jesus through the Stations of the Cross, reflecting on our individual and collective sins. We know that Jesus bears them bravely for everyone. But Isaiah reminds us that the Suffering Servant carries both sin and sorrow. We can lay our griefs on Jesus’ cross: the agonies of the world, the injustices and hopelessness. His generous offering of self bears it all. What can you lay on the cross today? What will be crucified along with Jesus? As you are relieved of your burdens, can you go away lighter? After all, the cross is ‘a punishment that brings us peace, and through his wounds we are healed’.
