Baruch 1:15-22. For the glory of your name, O Lord, deliver us – Ps 78(79):5, 8-9. Luke 10:13-16.
Humility and integrity
The prophets often held a mirror to God’s people, calling them to turn back to what is just and true. In today’s readings, we hear the lament of a people who have strayed and the warning of Jesus to towns that rejected his message. Mission, then, is not only about sharing the Good News; it is also about listening, repenting and being transformed by it. We cannot share what we do not live. As missionaries of God’s love, we are called to humility and integrity. When we ask God to deliver us for the glory of his name, we are really asking to be made whole again so that we can be signs of his mercy.
God of compassion, help us recognise the places in our hearts that need your healing, so that our lives may bear witness to your saving love.
