Feast of the Holy Family

Ecclesiasticus 3:2-6, 12-14. Happy are those who fear the Lord and walk in his ways – Psalm 127(128):1-5. Colossians 3:12-21. Matthew 2:13-15, 19-23.

Over all these clothes, put on love

Today we celebrate the Feast of the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph. It is usually held on the Sunday between Christmas and New Year, but when they are both on Sundays, the Holy Family is recognised on 30 December 2022. This is such a special feast for everyone who is part of a family, whatever it may look like. We remember three people who were bound together by God for a purpose and for mutual support. And despite their different roles, they found unity in love. The Colossians reading has some wonderful advice for all families: bear with one another, forgive, be kind and grateful. Above all: put on love. And for those who have no family, let us make real the bigger family of the Church today. We are all brothers and sisters in Christ.
