St Ignatius Loyola
Jeremiah 26:1-9. Lord, in your great love, answer me – Ps 68(69):5, 8-10, 14. Matthew 13:54-58.
Patience when others do not listen
When I was younger, I often wondered why God made me, feeling unwanted and unsure of my purpose. Later, I married and had children who are neurodivergent. Daily, my patience is tested, yet I see the Spirit at work in mysterious ways. Moving into work in the Catholic sector has given me purpose. Advocating for my children is challenging, frustrating, and at times heartbreaking. But it allows me to make a satisfying difference for parents and children in similar situations, cultivating perseverance I did not know I had.
Jeremiah faithfully delivered God’s message despite rejection, and Jesus faced disbelief in his hometown. Both remind us that doing what is right does not guarantee immediate acceptance.
Patience is needed when our efforts seem ignored or misunderstood. St Ignatius teaches that discernment requires waiting, reflection, and trust in God’s timing. Faithfulness matters more than quick results.
God, give me patience to trust your plans and the mysterious ways of your Spirit. Amen.
