Day of penance
Jeremiah 20:10-13. In my distress I called upon the Lord, and he heard my voice – Psalm 17(18):2-7. John 10:31-42.
The Lord is always with us
We’ve all been there. Those times when we’ve been misunderstood or misrepresented. When we have felt alone or abandoned. Or worse, when we have stood alone espousing a principle while others tell us to ‘let it go’, that it doesn’t matter or though we might be technically right others could be offended. Indeed, many of those who use social media know the cost in abuse or ‘cancelling’ that comes when a point of view considered heretical to the reigning orthodoxy is made. We empathise with Jeremiah as he exclaims ‘Terror from every side’. But both Jeremiah and the psalmist know that we are never truly alone. The Lord hears our voices, strengthens us and never loses us from his sight.
