St Casimir. Autumn Ember Day of prayer and penance

Why is it that we and the pharisees fast but your disciples do not?
The staff and executive development team at the Catholic Education Office, Sydney in the 1980s believed in involving secretarial staff as part of our group effort. When preparing for three to five-day residential programs, it was all hands on deck. We came in at 7am and worked late at key times. On the Monday after a successful course, we all went out for a long lunch to celebrate, with ancillary staff as our guests.
With a change of senior management, this was seen as scandalous. Staff were told to punch time clocks in and out. Lunch break was to be strictly one hour. We had to find other ways to reward and celebrate our wonderful ancillary staff. The new rules did nothing for morale.
As Jesus indicated, to everything there is a season.
