Grace of healing

Today’s feast reminds us that Christmas is on the way and may suggest something of the joy that awaits. Today’s Gospel suggests something of the joy that the presence of Jesus brings. Jesus restores sight to two blind men; this is made possible by the faith that they show. Yet, after he warns them to say nothing about what he has done they go and talk about it.

We can understand their excitement, their fervour. But in their disobedience they suggest the way that we can have faith, can receive God’s healing in our lives, and yet can fail to allow that healing to fully shape us. We can lose the thread.

Maybe in prayer today you might consider how you hold the grace of healing you have received, and how you can allow that healing experience to shape within you a disposition of joy and humility.
