About Today Readings

‘Even if you refuse to believe in me, at least believe in the work I do; then you will know for sure that the Father is in me and I am in the Father.’ John 10:38

The Gospel of John records only some of the ‘many signs’ that Jesus worked, so that the reader ‘may believe that Jesus is the Christ … and … have life through his name’ (John 20:30-31). The first of these signs is explicitly noted after the changing of water into wine at Cana. Jesus wants me to see the presence of the Divine in his work, and the ‘signs’ certainly reveal divine power. The great mystic Meister Eckhart said, ‘God is not found in the soul by adding anything, but by a process of subtraction.’ Lord, if something in me, or in my life, has to be let go, then so be it. I let go even of my beloved. I fall upwards into your love.
