If you want to, you can cure me

As I write this, Victorian COVID-19 numbers are daily in their thousands and health care workers are exhausted. They work hard to care for their patients, not just with COVID, but with all the other illnesses humans get. They get on with their job despite the fear and fatigue.

Today’s Gospel is a story of Jesus curing the disease that scared people of his time. As with our health care workers, he showed compassion for the man rather than fear of the illness. It is a reminder to all of us that everyone is human first and their brokenness second.

COVID has caused so many people to feel broken, not just if they are ill, but if they are isolated, depressed, anxious or without a job. Let’s come out of this time with a greater understanding of each other.
