Power of God’s love

‘I will be like the dew to Israel,’ says the Lord through Hosea. And God is like dew to us. The power of God’s love falls softly in our daily experiences. Heavy hearts can be softened and changed. Yet to love every neighbour is still so difficult. Richard Rohr has a wonderful insight into God’s love that works on Simon Peter in his short work, Soul Brothers. ‘God does not love Peter because Peter is good. God loves Peter because God is good, and that is what Peter finally sees and what makes him fall in love with Jesus in return. Until the cock crows, we do not get it. Until the cock crows, we do not see God. Until the cock crows, we do not know ourselves. We are all saved in spite of ourselves, and never is that more clearly illustrated than in the life of Peter’ (Soul Brothers, p75).
