About Today Readings

St Denis & Cc.; St John Leonardi. Day of penance

Galatians 3:7-14. The Lord will remember his covenant for ever – Psalm 110(111):1-6. Luke 11:15-26.

God is constant, generous and merciful.

How do we know who to believe? The witnesses of Jesus at his daily work of praying, teaching and healing are divided. Sure, the guy was restored to speech, some say, but can Jesus prove he’s from heaven? Maybe his power is from Satan. While some quietly ponder an amazing event, they demand even more proof. As Jesus points out, the end of this road leads to more confusion and problems than they had to start with. God does not work like us. God is constant, generous and merciful.

We can discern between the Holy Spirit and the Enemy by their fruits. The Holy Spirit at work is compassionate, courageous, wise, and frees our spirit with love and peace. We are strengthened. The opposite is true of the Enemy’s work. God’s faithfulness endures. The works of evil perish. St Denis was the first Bishop of Paris, martyred in the 3rd century as the first Christian missionary to Gaul. His personal story is lost in legend; but today his achievement is still acknowledged as the patron saint of France.
