Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God

Numbers 6:22–27. May God bless us in his mercy – Psalm 66(67):2–3, 5–6, 8. Galatians 4:4–7. Luke 2:16–21.

God loves his children unconditionally

There is so much we can learn from Mary about being good Christians and good parents. Mary gave us one of the most beautiful prayers of worship in the form of the Magnificat. It was spoken in the context of her celebrating the news of her own miraculous pregnancy with her miraculously pregnant cousin Elizabeth. We should also partake in prayer and reflection on the events in our lives to feel God’s presence and to be grateful to him. Mary obediently accepted God’s will when she agreed to receive the gift of his Son, naming him Jesus as God wished and seeing that he was circumcised, according to Jewish tradition. Good parenting means accepting that all children are a gift and must be cared for appropriately. Being a good Christian means obedience to our own Father in heaven. God chose us to be his children and he loves us unconditionally.
