1 Thessalonians 4:13-18. The Lord comes to judge the earth – Ps 95(96):1, 3-5, 11-13. Luke 4:16-30.
Amen, I say to you, no prophet is accepted in his native place
In today’s Gospel, we witness the fickle nature of the learned men in the temple. One minute, they are praising Jesus for his wise words, and the next, they rebuke him and threaten his death. Jesus escapes their clutches and continues his ministry. He has exposed the hardness of their hearts and leaves them with their confused fury. Following Christ’s example, we must not be tempted to follow the praises of our friends, family, coworkers or even our boss. We must avoid their grip and find freedom in your gaze.
Lord, keep us close to your heart. Let us always accept your wisdom, whether it empowers or infuriates us. May the work we do each day not be for the praise of others but only for you.
