About Today Readings

Easter Monday

Acts 2:14, 22-33. Keep me safe, O God; you are my hope – Psalm 15(16):1-2, 5, 7-11. Matthew 28:8-15.

What joy we experience today

‘Filled with awe and great joy the women came quickly away from the tomb and ran to tell the disciples.’

What joy we continue to experience today. The Holy Spirit was at work in the hearts of the women who knew Jesus was alive and no longer in the tomb; it was even at work in the hearts of the authorities who bribed the soldiers to tell a porky-pie lie – they knew something amazing had occurred too.

Out of death came life as prophesied in the old scriptures – the Holy Spirit threading its way through the generations – creating those moments of awe and great joy. We are enlivened, energised to bring about these moments of awe and great joy in our own lives and communities. As you read this, bring to mind a moment of awe and wonder, allow it to fill your heart and mind, let it run amok a bit, savour the feeling. We are grateful.
