May I show care and charity to those in need

‘Turn all your thoughts and aspirations to heaven. Work hard to secure for yourself a place there forever.’ – St Damien of Molokai

Today is the feast day of St. Damien of Molokai, born to a large Catholic family in Belgium in 1840. Ordained a priest in 1864, Fr. Damien was assigned to the Hawaiian diocese. For 16 years, he tended to the lepers of Kalaupapa on Molokai Island. He spent the rest of his life, caring for the island’s patients spiritual, emotional, and physical needs. Later, he contacted the illness and died in 1889.

Father in heaven, St Damien gave his life to serve the exiled. Like him, may I heed your call no matter where it takes me. May I show care and charity to those in need, no matter the cost.
