Do you lead people to encounters with Jesus?

What obstacles do you face in bringing your friends to an encounter with Jesus? How hard do you try? Despite their difficulty, the friends of the paralysed man found a way through the roof of the house. It’s easy to make excuses about why we don’t make an effort to invite friends to prayer gatherings, retreats or the Eucharist, but each of us has a responsibility to lead people to an encounter with Jesus. Pope Benedict XVI reminds us that ‘being Christian is not the result of an ethical choice or a lofty idea, but the encounter with an event, a person, which gives a new horizon and decisive direction’. We note that Jesus instructs the healed man to ‘get up, take your mat and go home’, revealing that the encounter required him to take the first steps towards a new way of being.
