Shine a light in the darkness
Today’s readings remind us of our duty to strive for justice and defend the oppressed, even when it’s uncomfortable. We must ‘learn to do right; seek justice. Defend the oppressed. Take up the cause of the fatherless; plead the case of the widow’. This is not a glamorous job. We are called, sometimes, to do what is right, yet unpopular. Perhaps this is our cross.
Who is oppressed in my community? In my country? In my household? Am I their champion? What am I doing to shine light on those in darkness? How am I thoughtful of those so often overlooked? And what does it cost of me? Lord, help me to do what is right, and to notice those overlooked.
