About Today Readings

Isaiah 65:17-21. 29 – Psalm 29(30):2, 4-6, 11-13. John 4:43-45.

We are the light for each other

If only this chapter from John’s Gospel was used as Jesus intended throughout the ages – maybe we wouldn’t have discrimination based on disability, or that amazing misunderstanding that disability or difference is of our own doing, a result of sin. Thank goodness headway has been made, yet I think this could be highlighted further in every ministry: ‘As he walked along, he saw a man blind from birth. His disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” Jesus answered, “Neither this man nor his parents sinned; he was born blind so that God’s works might be revealed in him. We must work the works of him who sent me while it is day; night is coming when no one can work. As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”’ We are Jesus in the world today, we are the light for each other and those who are the most vulnerable. Our continued ministry is to challenge any spiritual blindness that prevents access to the love of God, or diminishes another, to ensure that God’s work is revealed in each person we encounter.
